The 15th (Northwest) Arkansas Regiment history.

Initially the unit was organized as a four-company battalion unter the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Dandridge McRae on July 15th, 1861. The battalion was designated as the 3rd Arkansas Infantry Battalion.

December 3rd, 1861 the Unit was reorganized as the 21st Arkansas when the 3rd Arkansas was brought up to regimental strength. In April of 1862, the 21st Arkansas was transferred to Mississippi. Upon arrival, the 21st was reorganized and brought up to a full ten companies. The avoid confusion after the transfer to MIssissippi, the 21stst was re-designated as the 15th Arkansas Regiment in October of 1862.

In February of 1863 the 15th Arkansas was re-designated at the 15th (Northwest) Arkansas. This was to differentiate from the "real" 15th Arkansas and the 15th (Southwest) Arkansas.

In January of 1864 the Regiment was consolidated with the 14th and 16th Arkansas as the 1st Arkansas Consolidated Regiment. Under this final reorganization, the regiment served until May of 1865 with the surrender of the Army.
